Obama Appears On TV And Sends A Clear Message To Trump
Former President Obama had a message for Trump while on David Letterman’s new Netflix show: Pay close attention to your behavior because it has the potential to impact the nation’s culture and values.
“One of the things that Michelle figured out, in some ways faster than I did—was part of your ability to lead the country doesn’t have to do with legislation, doesn’t have to do with regulations, it has to do with shaping attitudes, shaping culture, increasing awareness,” Obama told David Letterman on the first episode of his new Netflix show, which was released Friday. The interview was recorded last fall, and while Obama hasn’t specifically mentioned Trump, it has often been his strategy to not say Trump’s name while criticizing him.
Obama’s comments, while from months ago, have been brought up lately because of Trump’s alleged ‘sh*thole’ comments, which apparently was said while in a meeting with lawmakers regarding a bipartisan immigration deal. The alleged comments caused a media firestorm and led many to refer to the president as “racist.”
The White House has not made an official statement regarding the validity of the claims, but Trump himself has taken to Twitter and claimed that the allegations are totally untrue and that he never used that language to refer to Haiti.
“The language used by me at the DACA meeting was tough, but this was not the language used. What was really tough was the outlandish proposal made – a big setback for DACA!” Trump tweeted. “Never said anything derogatory about Haitians other than Haiti is, obviously, a very poor and troubled country. Never said ‘take them out.’ Made up by Dems. I have a wonderful relationship with Haitians. Probably should record future meetings – unfortunately, no trust!”
People want Trump to work with the Democrats to accomplish more, but this just ends up happening.
